Hummingbird Guardian of the Páramo – Original Artwork
Description
This original artwork portrays the bearded helmetcrest (Oxypogon guerinii), a hummingbird endemic to the Colombian páramos and a symbol of life in high Andean ecosystems. Found in regions such as the Sumapaz and Santurbán páramos, this species stands out for its unique appearance: its characteristic crest and distinctive “beard” give it a singular identity among hummingbirds.
Beyond its beauty, the bearded helmetcrest plays an essential role in nature, actively contributing to the pollination of frailejones (Espeletia sp.), plants that are fundamental for water regulation and production in páramo ecosystems.
This piece has been created using a mixed media technique, combining colored pencils and watercolor on 100% cotton paper, ensuring high quality, durability, and rich detail. Its dimensions are 29.5 × 44.5 cm, making it an ideal statement piece for any space.
A one-of-a-kind artwork that celebrates Colombia’s biodiversity and highlights the importance of protecting the ecosystems that sustain life.
